Helaas, er zijn inmiddels twee weken verstreken nadat ik de petitie naar de afdeling “Communications” van CMA gestuurd heb. Communicatie heeft er echter nog niet plaats gevonden, dus daarom zojuist een reminder gestuurd. Opnieuw afwachten maar weer pfff…

Zojuist heeft Richard Smith onderstaande aankondiging op zijn Facebook pagina geplaatst:

Mark your calendars for Tuesday May 21st. 3rd and Lindsley in Nashville TN. The annual “Jerry Reed Guitar man” tribute night benefit for “Music Cares”. Brent Mason, Tommy Emmanuel, me, Craig Dobbins, Darrel Toney, John Knowles, Buddy Green, Mark Thornton, Seidina Reed, Thom Bresh, Audie Wykle, Pat Bergeson, and more….. it’ll be 4-5 hours of non stop high energy virtuoso guitar playing, singing and fun.

Het ziet er dus naar uit dat het Richard is gelukt om jaarlijks een “Jerry Reed Tribute” op te organiseren… fantastisch!!!

Toen ik van de week de petitie aanbood bij CMHOF kreeg ik al snel de reactie dat niet zij, maar de CMA (Country Music Association) gaat over het verkiezingsproces bij CMHOF. Zojuist dus opnieuw de petitie aangeboden maar nu bij de CMA. We wachten weer af…

De 500ste(!) handtekening is een feit! Iedereen die de petitie getekend heeft GEWELDIG BEDANKT! De komende dagen zal ik contact opnemen met de Country Music Hall of Fame om de resultaten te overhandigen. Hopelijk kan ik jullie snel op de hoogte brengen van goed nieuws!

The Importance of the Guitar Man Sessions

Long have we lauded the ’68 Comeback Special and deservedly so, but every triumph has its genesis and it is reasonable to say Elvis artistic comeback was with his eager involvement in the May 1966 How Great Thou Art sessions and resulting album. And the lead up home recordings likely from February of that year. Elvis involved himself in the making of ‘How Great Thou Art’ like he did no other album, it was a concept he put everything into to create an ‘album’. But it is Guitar Man, Big Boss Man and Hi-Heel Sneakers that have all was stood out on their own as unique. The Guitar Man sessions followed just over a year later and should have produced Elvis’ ‘comeback album’ of non-secular material. It is also probably no coincidence the date in between, May 1, 1967, the day Elvis and Priscilla were married. Originally scheduled for August 22 and 23, 1967 in Hollywood California, the session was canceled as Colonel Parker was concerned of the ramifications of the unfortunate incident of Richard Davis accidentally killing a japanese gardener in L.A. while driving one of Elvis’ cars. Fearing a legal suite the Colonel ordered everyone out of town putting Elvis on a plane to Las Vegas immediately.
